— ART, FASHION & MORE !
Meet Masaru Suzuki, known as the founder and designer of OTTAIPNU, the Japan-based textile brand launched in 2002. Since Suzuki represented his work at ahead! in Habitare, the biggest design exhibition in Finland in 2009, he has worked as an important role in textile business; it’s notable that he’s worked for Lapuan Kankurit from their 2009 S/S collection and for Marimekko from their 2010 A/W collection.
For the upcoming rainy season and summer in Japan, the latest exhibition at Spiral Garden in Aoyama, Tokyo, displays Suzuki’s work in parasol/umbrella which captivates you with its quality and variety through various qualities of cottons such as hand printing fabric and dobby cloth weaved on a traditional loom, linens (for parasol) and polyester (for umbrella), with his conceptual designs.
The best aspects of his fabric design are his creative abilities to describe everyday objects someone grew up with such as animals and plants in a warm way, bold use of colors (wildly colorful) and unique compositional techniques. Do you want to have a bit of extra fun for rainy days? I believe this exhibition serves as a nice introductory portrait to brighten up your mood in the rainy season.
The exhibition “Masaru Suzuki and his textile designs” is on view at Spiral Garden located at 5-6-23 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku in Tokyo until this Sunday May 18.
