— ART, FASHION & MORE !
d47 MUSEUM in Shibuya, Tokyo, is a place to showcase Japan’s creativity using 47 display stands. (*The site shows the contents almost all in Japanese, but you can translate them into English using Google translate on there. )
The name d47 is derived from the fact that Japan consists of 47 prefectures, and this museum displays the works gathered from all the prefectures incorporating locals who work in creative environments such as architect, editor, entrepreneur, modern/traditional craftsman, photographer, product designer, textile designer, and writer.
The latest exhibition at d47 MUSEUM features the 47 different cultural magazines to change people’s awareness in each prefecture. Most of the information in the world can be accessible online now but I have re-discovered the beauty of analog fuzziness (not very fuzzy though) which is pure, thoughtful and made of nuanced paper, even though the design style varies and there are some budgetary constraints on printed publication depending on cities and/or prefectures.
–Hida, a tri-annual giveaway magazine, from Hida-city, Gifu prefecture
*They occasionally distribute a free sample of small-sized craft arts made by local artisans, along with the publication date
–Kalas, a tri-annual booklet, from Tsu-city, Mie prefecture
What city are you in and how would you describe the place where you live?
Even if I was born and grew up here in Japan, it doesn’t mean I had been all over Japan. Meanwhile, this show gives me a chance to newly think of how I can be inspired by the city I am in and may go in the future.
The show runs though Sunday, June 15, 2014 at d45 MUSEUM (Hikarie‘s 8th floor) located at 2-21-1 in Shibuya.
