— ART, FASHION & MORE !
I love to see the world through the eye of mint designs, the brand of the Japanese designer duo Hokuto Katsui and Nao Yagi.
The two designers, graduates of Central Saint Martins, who teamed up to launch their brand in Japan in 2001, always presents a collection full of original textiles which play with color and pattern.
With their funky and progressive styles they fulfill the needs of modern woman, and currently holds a tote bag exhibition in partnership with Souvenir From Tokyo, a museum shop operated by The National Art Center Tokyo. Entitled “VERTIGO”, as another part of their 2014 S/S collection, the exhibition displays their pursuit of “pattern formation”, which is experimental, vibrantly-colored, and incorporates the characteristics of clay and pigments. Among the handmade layered pattern formed on canvas tote bags (all one of a kind), which seems as if they were inspired by abstract paintings, I tried to read something. I just tried to read something through the title— VERTIGO.
The exhibition VERTIGO runs through Monday June 9th at Souvenir From Tokyo, located at 7-22-2 Roppongi, Minato-ku in Tokyo.
