— ART, FASHION & MORE !
Luckily, I had a conversation with Naoto Kitamura, one of the busiest artists in Japan at the moment, when he was in Tokyo the other day for his pop-up store opening.
Kitamura was born and raised in Fukuoka in 1979. After he moved to Oita for high school, his fascination with painting found its way into his work in 2004 and thereafter, Kitamura was making art on street as his live-performances, which latterly became contributions to the Oita prefecture such as wall paintings and workshops. Over the past few years, Kitamura has expanded area of his activities and frequently traveled all over Japan for gallery events, store openings, shooting by publications his shows and workshops, and occasional events collaborated with fashion designer.
His work is charmingly combined by two different elements; visual appeal and verbal message.
Besides the exciting use of color, Kitamura has a style in paintings to convey a view of reality speaking some words —as you can see above. Although some of them seem just casual remarks, I really enjoy (actually laugh hard…) and recognize how he perceives the various types of situations in daily life to communicate with people.
“My vision for making art is that people will integrate the way people imagine something in the real world such as criticism and complaints into a mood of optimism, and to bring out the value in each other.” , said Kitamura. I am truly into the composite phenomenon, which is engaging.
