— ART, FASHION & MORE !
I fell in love with her world. Shiori Clark, the London-based artist. Having a Japanese mother and an English father, Shiori was raised in Chiba, Japan. She’s created artworks since she was a little child, and her career was rapidly developed after graduation from Musashino Art University in Tokyo in 2006.

So I got to know about Shiori’s work during my current research about “hosiery now in Japan”, and found out Laforet Harajuku has a pop-up shop called “Dress and Tights” (wanpi-su to taitsu; ワンピースとタイツ in Japanese). One of the main focuses of this pop-up is how people can be involved in art, so the art was connected by something wearable. The items, actually more tights, are collaborated with the selected artists, including Shiori, who primarily make artworks in different areas, not in fashion. I realized again that I love Shiori Clark’s world VERY MUCH when I was in the shop. Also, one of my primary interests when profiling people/business for Maiko Colors has always been filled with a plenty of colors that highlight and bring out the uniqueness of their work… So, right after I picked a pair of tights which she’s designed, I decided to contact her thinking that I need to write about her world and how I love my tights.
I’m so glad to have interviewed Shiori. She is lovely, answered all my inquiries promptly and thoughtfully, and told me more about her. While enjoying her life in Tokyo, she gradually became aware of a change of atmosphere to develop new ideas for her work and then picked London where her father’s originally from, for a place to relocate in 2012. In addition to her current work, she is looking to evolve a new project, which is to paint on pottery and earthenware for 2014.
