— ART, FASHION & MORE !
I was just a passerby on a rainy day. But, the store I’ve popped into on that day was literally an oasis in Tokyo… It’s an eclectic mix; clothing, accessories, home décor, housewares and art work; but the common theme is that all the items are simple, beautiful, and excellently made.
Owner Takaomi Baba opened this multi-faceted retail store “VA-VA” in Tokyo, in September 2012. Baba designs unisex clothes as the store’s original items and also sells Japanese artisanal products such as woven goods, wooden cutlery and traditional pottery that he all carefully-handpicked.
Baba scouts all over Japan -ateliers, crafts shops, mills, studios and plenty more- for lovely additions to his store; he truly gives consumers many opportunities to experience the natural beauty of Japan with his aesthetic point of view.
As for his original label “VA-VA”, he specializes in making unisex polo-collared shirts in refined cotton using covered buttons. Also, all the shirts are produced and hand-stitched in Tokyo so that he can be flexible with design for personalized shirts, such as embroidering logo and initials, if he happens to receive an inquiry from a customer.
